I've been off Oppo for a two or so weeks, because Canada, so I'm completely out of the loop as to what's going on around here. Hope everybody's been well. Anyways. As the title states, I talked one of my friends into buying a Honda Civic Si.
He just recently graduated from TCU and landed a big boy job over in Edwardsville, IL. From STL, where we live, it's about a 45 minute drive to and from work. His 2006 Dodge Ram wasn't getting nearly the gas mileage he wanted while driving that far every day, so he needed to trade it in.
He called me about two weeks ago asking if I would teach him how to drive stick, so I gladly obliged. He learned extremely quickly (I'm just a damn good teacher) and went on the car search a few days later.
He was trying to decide between the V6 Camaro or the Si. I'm not a Honda lover, but I told him he'd most likely have a lot more fun in the Honda. Just yesterday he drove home in a brand new Civic Si.
I was thrilled that he took my advice and opted for the Honda. I haven't ridden it yet, but when we're both done with work today, we're planning on taking it for a rip around some fun roads. I'm really looking forward to driving it!
That's all. Glad to be back. Stay classy, Oppo.

Should've talked him into an FR-S/BRZ! He could've had all the funs! ;)

The civic isn't *quite* the hot compact that others in the segment are. But what it is is a civic that is just better in every way. Should be a great commuter for the jalop on a budget. Of course, insurance and running costs are low too because Honda.

Ya, I tried to talk him into a Focus ST or something like that, but he isn't a fan of hatchbacks, so I'm pretty proud of him for going with the Si over the Camaro. I personally don't like the V6 Camaro and he obviously decided that it wasn't that great haha

It wouldn't work for him, unfortunately! He needs to carry folks around and he's also got a Bernese Mountain dog and it's absolutely massive. No way a sumbitch like that would fit in a FRS haha

I jest of course. Welcome back, and congrats to your friend on his new purchase!

What would you have gone with given the options of Camaro or Si?

Well especially if he has a longer commute and prefers practicality to appearance, he'll probably like the civic in the long term. The camaro might look better at first but that visibility and poor gas mileage will make it less and less fun to drive every day. Oh and the civic has a limited slip diff so when snow tires go on, you can have a surprising amount of fun with it. And it's a civic so no one will care if he beats on it!

Every one of those reasons you stated is why he chose the Si haha

Big Bubba, I'm sorry but I'm not interested in your friends Civic.
Why?
Because 240Z.

Haha I promise I'm going to do a 240Z post today! I've been putting it off cause I've been really busy recently.

He has to lug a Bernese around yet does not want a hatch? I am failing to see how a small sedan could fit one of those dogs comfortably.

He doesn't like the look of hatchbacks. The dog will fit pretty comfortably in the back seat of the sedan.
